The China-Laos Railway is an international railway directly connected with China's railway network. The 1,035km railway starts from Kunming, Yunnan Province in China in the north, passes Yuxi (玉溪), Pu 'er (普洱)and Mohan border ports in China in the south, and then passes Moding border port in Laos to Vientiane, the capital of Laos. After the operation and customs clearance, passengers can travel from Kunming to Vientiane in about 10 hours. The opening of China-Laos railway also ended the history of no trains in Pu 'er City and Xishuangbanna (西双版纳) Prefecture.

In addition, as an important backbone of the Trans-Asian Railway, the China-Laos Railway will also have a positive impact on the China-Asean Free Trade Area and the greater Mekong Sub-region economic cooperation.
