On 3rd March 2018, the first meeting of the 13th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference was held in The Great Hall of the People, China.

Zhao Weihong, the chief engineer of CHINA ACADEMY OF RAILWAY SCIENCES, disclosed in an interview that driverless technology will be used in driving D series high-speed trains, and they are aiming to process all the procedures by only pressing a few control buttons.

Zhao Hongwei introduced, “Fuxing” bullet trains had been formally put into use in 2017. It is a completely self-developed high-speed train type, which had world-class technology and its speed can reach 350km/h for Shanghai – Beijing line.

As for the future development direction, Zhao said one of the targets is serialization. The R&D team is developing two serialization D-trains with the speed of 250km/h and 160km/h, in order to adjust different running environment, geological conditions.

The second target is about environmental protection. She said the team is working on how to develop a new energy-saving technology, and find new energy-saving material/fuel.

The third target is realizing driverless function. She said they are working on how to process the whole procedures like starting, speeding up, speeding cut and stopping by just pressing specified buttons.

The last target, she said, was meeting passengers’ smart journey demand. CHINA RAILWAY and CHINA ACADEMY OF RAILWAY SCIENCES will launch a serious of smart service to meet the demand of high-quality traveling needs.
