Following joint efforts by railway authorities of China and Vietnam, the international passenger train service between Nanning (China) and Hanoi Gia Lam Station (Vietnam) has resumed operation since May 25, 2025, providing transportation support to facilitate personnel exchanges, economic cooperation, and cultural ties between the two countries. Here are the details and ticketing information for the upcoming train services.

1.Ticket Sales

  • ●Tickets for the China-Vietnam international trains went on sale starting at 6:00 PM on May 22.
  • ●Purchase Locations: Passengers may buy tickets at designated counters in Guilin North, Nanning, Chongzuo, and Pingxiang stations by presenting valid passports. Unfortunately, tickets for this train are still unavailable for online purchase.
  • ●Advance Purchase: Tickets are available 10 days prior to the travel date at all four stations.
    • ○Nanning Station: Sales begin daily at  9:00 AM ( UTC+8).
      ○Other stations: Specific sales hours and counter details are listed in  Table 1.

2.Train Schedule

  • ●Train T8701/MR2 :
    • ○Departs Nanning Station daily at  6:05 PM ( UTC+8).
      ○Exits China via Pingxiang Railway Port, stops at Dong Dang Station (Vietnam), and changes its train number to  MR2.
      ○Arrives at Hanoi Gia Lam Station at  6:30 AM ( UTC+8)  the next day, with intermediate stops at Chongzuo, Pingxiang, Dong Dang, and Bac Giang.

    3.Additional Routes

    • ●Passengers departing from Beijing can take train No.Z5, departing from Beijing West Station at 4:05 PM (UTC+8), then transfer to train No.T8701 at Nanning Station for onward travel to Hanoi Gia Lam.

    4.Ticket Policies

    • ●Cross-border Tickets:
      • ○Only  outbound tickets (China to Vietnam) are sold within China. For  inbound journeys (Vietnam to China), please purchase tickets at Vietnamese stations.
    • ●Child Tickets:
      • Ages 4–12: Must purchase child tickets.
        Free Policy: One child  under 4 (not occupying a seat) may travel free per paying adult. Additional children require child tickets regardless of age.
        Seat Occupancy: Children occupying seats must purchase tickets regardless of age.

    5.Border Procedures

    • ●Passengers must complete customs clearance at Pingxiang Station (China) and Dong Dang Station (Vietnam).
    • ●Pre-departure Requirements: Obtain a paper visa or prepare visa exemption documents.

    The revival of the China-Vietnam international train service on May 25, 2025 marks a milestone in bilateral relations after a five-year hiatus. The overnight service reduces accommodation costs, appealing to tourists and business travelers. Coinciding with the 75th anniversary of China-Vietnam diplomatic ties, the resumption symbolizes a new chapter in cross-border connectivity and future collaboration.
